Double Indemnity Poster Analysis

Double Indemnity

This poster is different to most thriller film posters. This is due to the fact of it being all in bright colours. However, the poster still includes thriller features that are present in most thriller posters. The poster being in bright colours may help to attract the audiences attention.

The man in the poster is wearing a suite which can be a feature of thrillers and mainly in film-noires where suits are often worn to signify power or sophistication which this character may be. Also, the suit being a dark colour may indicate that the character is evil alongside the fact that he is holding a gun in his hand. Having a gun in the man's hand suggests that there is use of weapons and violence within the film.

The anchor on the poster that says, 'From the moment they met it was murder!' indicates that the film includes murder but also that there is romance in the film, most likely the couple that is shown on the poster. It could also mean that there is lying and unfaithfulness in their relationship because the word 'murder' in describing a relationship could mean that it is a very unstable relationship. This helps to add mystery to the film as it makes the audience think about it further into what it could mean.

The man is holding on to the woman in the poster in such a way that clearly shows that he is in control. He is leaning over her which shows that he is the dominant character and also indicates that the film is most likely to have a male protagonist which most thriller films tend to have.

The film does well in attracting the audiences attention and showing them that the film is about murder, deceit and crime; this may appeal to a mostly male audience due to the use of violence and weapons.
